My Approach

I believe that by listening to the deep wisdom of our bodies, we begin to shift from rigid expectations and unconscious behaviors to an expanded sense of our true essence.

My practice is guided a strong belief in the power of the physical experience to heal past traumas, address current destructive habits, and ease life transitions. I strive to help my clients find joy, hope, and freedom in their lives.

We do this by bringing attention and respect to our body’s habitual responses. This can allow us access to parts of ourselves that have been hidden away, which in turn allows us to begin to connect with a deeper understanding to who we are as individuals.

I use a form of psychotherapy called Hakomi that provides a non-judgmental stance of guided self-discovery that allows us to shift from everyday conversation to kind observation of the present moment. (italics simply for emphasis – it seems like an anchoring concept for people being introduced – then when it is repeated in the next paragraph it has a different weight)
Instead of talking about our emotions, thoughts, and physical experiences, we bring kind attention to the habitual patterns in present in our bodies, our emotional reactions, and thinking patterns that are based on unconscious beliefs and habits. By slowing down the conversation and refocusing our attention to guided self-study, Hakomi supports us in discovering hidden responses and stuck patterns of reactivity.

How does this work?

The length of therapy depends a great deal on the number and depth of issues that you would like to address. I am flexible about the number of sessions needed so that my clients can address issues in a way that works with their lifestyles and schedules. I have found over the years that therapy begins being helpful at the very first session. There is no one-size fits all formula for healing, and it is common for clients to take breaks and time-outs for life circumstances.

How often should I expect to come in?

I begin therapy with a request of meeting weekly for the first month if possible. This allows us to develop a meaningful relationship and helps me understand your goals and needs in the therapeutic relationship. After we establish our relationship and therapeutic plan we may choose to meet less often, allowing you time to move between practice in session and the application and experience of healing in the rest of your life and relationships.

What kinds of people seek sex therapy?

All kinds of people! Anybody who has been in a relationship with themselves or an intimate partner can benefit from sex therapy. I work with a wide variety of individuals — we can move between general therapy and the more specific issues of sex therapy as needed. The goal is to get people who are hurting and feeling stuck to a better place where they can heal. I provide a non-judgmental, healing environment to speak of issues that may have felt unspeakable.
